MUESAC discussed with the Government the Horizon Europe proposal for funds in research and innovation. Meanwhile, discussions are still underway between EU member states and institutions on the allocation of the European Union’s next Budget.
European Affairs Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said that funds for research and innovation are essential for competitiveness in a fast changing world. The Government, he said, stresses on a just transition so that in the EU, small countries reach the level of bigger countries in research and innovation, through long-term investment.
Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Aaron Farrugia stated that, while European funds should be absorbed till the last cent, a greater ambition is needed and noticed that countries who became EU members in 2004 and the following years, including Malta, receive only 5% of the whole of Horizon programme.
