Fined €100,000 for removal of trees without permission

The project for the creation of a new concert zone at Ta’ Qali has been fined €100,000 by the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA). A meeting of the Authority to consider an application to uproot and remove trees from the zone resulted in that this is already taking place although the Authority had not finalised its decision and thus the uprooting and removal of trees had taken place without permission. The Authority eventually accepted the request against a bank guarantee of €174,000 and as compensation ordered that 675 new trees be planted.
