Nearly 6,000 kg of cocaine seized in Spain

The Spanish Home Affairs Ministry has announced the seizure of the largest cocaine haul in the last 18 years.

Just under 6,000 kilograms of cocaine wered found concealed in boxes of bananas in a container which had just arrived at the port of Algeciras from Medellin in Colombia.

Three persons have been arrested, among them a Spaniard who owns an import company which handled the container.

The drug, packed in slabs each weighing one kilogram, has a street value of some 210 million euro, and was intended for distribution to various European countries.
