Neville Gafà acquitted of threatening Italian journalist

Neville Gafa’ was acquitted of the charge of threatening Italian journalist Nello Scavo after the prosecution failed to prove that the alleged crime had occurred. The case on irregular migration took place in June when Scavo, an Avvenire newspaper journalist, complained that Gafa’ threatened him with comments on the social media.

In Court, Magistrate Charmaine Galea said that it didn’t result that Scavo had not felt threatened at the moment that Gafa’ uploaded his tweet and it was after the Maltese Police were contacted by a third person that it invited Scavo to present a criminal charge, and that it was presented more than a month after the tweet in question.

The Court also noted that Scavo did not in any way explain what he understood by the accused alleged threat.
