New Archpriest for St Paul Shipwrecked church in Valletta

Archbishop Charles Scicluna has appointed Canon David Cilia as the new Archpriest for the parish of St Paul Shipwrecked in Valletta.

Canon David Cilia was born on 2 August 1968, and received his education at the Qormi St George school, St Albert College and the Archbishop’s Seminary. He studied philosophy and theology at the University’s Faculty of Theology, and Canon Law at the Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained priest on 30 June 1995.

Fr David started his pastoral duties as vice-chaplain at Maria Bambina parish in Mellieha and at San Ġorġ Preca in Swatar. He was a member of the Collegiate Chapter of St Paul in Rabat, and head of school at the Archbishop’s Seminary. Fr David also serves as judge in the Regional Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Second Instance, and is the Archbishop’s Delegate for the Eucharistic Branch and the Eucharistic Children of Mary.

The parish of St Paul’s Shipwrecked is made up of 1,800 persons, being some 800 families.
