The work on building a new Caritas centre is moving along at a nice pace. This centre will be used for the rehab of adolescents who are drug addicts, and is located at Ta’ Kandja, in the limits of Siggiewi.

Caritas Director Anthony Gatt said that this was an important service for drug addicts. The works began in September and will include a residential area as well as an area for outpatients.

Minister Michael Falzon said that the Government is helping Caritas with €3.3 million for the building of the centre which when it starts operating will also receive €750,000 per year.

Archbishop Charles Scicluna thanked the Government for helping Caritas. He said that this was an investment in society and a show of trust.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that this project shows that the Government and the Church can work together for the good of society.

The land was given to Caritas by the Government for 25 years. The centre will be able to accommodate 20 adolescents and will include  many facilities and open spaces.
