New identity card with additional security characteristics

The Identity Malta Agency will soon start issuing a new identity card which will feature new security characteristics which safeguard a person’s identity. The new characteristics will make it difficult for the document to be tampered with or falsified. Production of this new identity card is in its last phases.

During a visit to the production plant handling the new identity card, Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship Alex Muscat stated that this shows Identity Malta’s seriousness in handling the safety and security of a person’s identity.

The Agency’s Chief Executive Anton Sevasta said the new identity card will not be distributed all over the country in one go but will be issued to persons applying for a new ID card or to change this official document.
