Newborn baby saved from sewage canal

In South Africa, there was a joyful scene when a new-born baby was heard crying after it was released from a rainwater canal system where the baby was stuck for various hours.

A video footage uploaded on the social media shows the moment when emergency workers released the baby, who was immediately airlifted to a hospital. The baby was found with a very low body temperature and some slight injuries.

Reports said that the baby was found by a passer-by who heard a baby cry and opened the manhole cover to see where the noise was coming from. It is not yet known how the baby ended up in the sewage system, however suspicion is that it was an attempted killing, while the parents cannot be identified.
