NGOs welcome discussions on increase in minimum wage

The Campaign for a Decent Minimum Wage, in which a number of non-governmental organisations are participating, has expressed satisfaction at the fact that discussions have started on the possibility of an increase in the minimum wage.

The Campaign stated that arguments by economists during this discussion, which took place during yesterday’s MCESD meeting, not only do not go against the Campaign’s arguments and conclusions, but rather, strengthen them.

The Campaign for a Decent Minimum Wage said it also welcomes the proposal which was made, and supported by economists Gordon Cordina and Lino Briguglio, for the setting up of a consultative committee under the auspices of the MCESD.

The organisations taking part in the campaign are the Aditus Foundation, Alleanza Kontra l-Faqar, Caritas, Forum Bormliż, Integra Foundation, Koperattiva Kummerċ Ġust, Malta Humanist Association, Malta Microfinance, Mid-Dlam għad-Dawl, Millennium Chapel, Moviment Graffitti, Paulo Freire Institute, Peace Lab, The Critical Institute, Third World Group and Żminijietna – Voice of the Left.
