Nine-day work stoppage in Russia due to Covid

Russia will soon send workers home for nine days in an effort to contain the Covid pandemic in the country.

President Vladimir Putin said the work stoppage will commence from the 30th October till the 7th November in the wake of an increase in Covid-19 cases in Russia. He said that all workers will be paid during this period.

The measure will be introduced after Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova on Tuesday proposed that workers are sent home for a week to decrease virus cases.

Putin urged Russians to take care of their health and to vaccinate themselves against the virus.

1,028 persons died during the past 24 hours after they had tested positive to Covid-19 – a record of virus deaths in the country in one day. Victims have already reached 226,353, the highest rate of deaths in Europe.
