Northern Italy: Storm leaves two dead, some flights cancelled

The Northern part of Italy has been hit by a strong ice storm during the past hours.

In Lombardy, two fishermen lost their lives when some trees fell on them due to strong winds. Reports said that the two men tried to seek shelter under trees near a river. A person who witnessed the tragedy said that at the time an air whirlwind hit the area.

Milan’s authorities issued a strong storm warning with rain and wind reaching 50-70 km/hr. The bad weather also affected the Malpensa and Genoa airports which were covered in ice, with some flights being cancelled.
