Oliver Scicluna is now a Parliamentary Member after he was sworn during today’s Parliament session.
After his swearing-in, MP Scicluna thanked the Prime Minister for the confidence he showed in him, recalled his service as Commissioner for Persons with Disability in recent years, adding that he served with loyalty towards the disabled and their families without any favours or colour towards people. Deputy Scicluna stated that he will serve Parliament in the same way and expressed his wish to work with all deputies.
Oliver Scicluna was co-opted in Parliament following a proposal by Prime Minister Robert Abela, which was unanimously approved by the Labour Party executive to fill the seat vacated by former MP Gavin Gulia who was elected in a casual election. This followed the resignation as Minister and MP of Professor Edward Scicluna to take up the post of Central Bank Governor at the beginning of the year.
