Mother, son and another youth arraigned in Court over thefts

A woman who earlier this week was given a suspended sentence for cases of theft from hotel rooms was once more arraigned in Court and accused that together with her 19-year-old son she had carried out a number of thefts from a restaurant in Mġarr.

These occurred last November. Maria Pia Zammit (34) denied the accusations and was detained under arrest until witnesses testify and the case is concluded. Her son, Leon Lee Zammit, admitted the accusations and was granted bail against a deposit of €4,000 and a personal guarantee of €15,000.

Separately, Samuel Gauci (18) was also arraigned and accused of being an accomplice of Maria Pia and Leon Lee Zammit. He was accused of having driven the mother and son to the place where thefts were carried out. Gauci admitted to the charge and was given a two year prison sentence suspended for a period of four years.
