UPDATED: Elderly man dies in Ħad-Dingli accident

A 73-year-old man lost his life after being involved in a road accident in Triq Ħad-Dingli, Rabat.  A 74-year-old female, a passenger in the car, is in danger of dying.

The accident occurred at about 9.30 a.m. and involved a Mitsubishi Pajero and a Daihatsu Hi-jet. The Pajero was being driven by a 48-year-old man, a resident of Ħad-Dingli. The Daihatsu was being driven by the 73-year-old man, and a 74-year-old woman was a passenger in the same vehicle.

Civil Protection Department personnel went to the scene to assist, as well as a medical team which rendered first aid, and an ambulance which took the man and woman to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment. Both the man and the woman were later certified to be suffering from serious injuries. The 48-year-old man did not sustain any injuries.

Duty Magistrate Marseanne Farrugia was notified and appointed a number of experts to assist in a Magisterial inquiry.

Police investigations are ongoing.
