Opposition Leader demands resignation of Justice Minister Edward Zammit Lewis

Opposition and Nationalist Party Leader Dr Bernard Grech said that he had submitted a parliamentary motion for the Prime Minister to demand the resignation of Minister Edward Zammit Lewis from the post of Minister for Justice and Governance, and, failing his resignation, for the PM to dismiss him from the post of Minister.

In a statement, the Nationalist Party said that with his actions, Minister Zammit Lewis had put the the public office he was entrusted to at risk and he was unworthy of holding the post of Government Minister.

The Nationalist Party referred to a report in The Sunday Times in which it was alleged that Minister Zammit Lewis was colluding with Yorgen Fenech over a request made by former Nationalist Leader Simon Busuttil to conduct an inquiry into the company 17 Black.

The Nationalist Party said that our country deserved better and that the post of Minister for Justice and Governance ought to be held by a person who had not been associated with individuals about whom there had been serious allegations and by someone who had not participated in the creation and the operation of a culture of impunity, which he said had led to the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
