Opposition presents Bill to strengthen protection of journalists against threat of SLAPP
The Nationalist Opposition has submitted a Bill to strengthen the protection of journalists from the threat of the libel suit known as SLAPP. The PN said that this Bill, known as the Act to provide for the protection against strategic lawsuits against public participation, known in short as SLAPP, was presented by the Opposition Leader and four members of the Opposition.
The Bill intends to keep Maltese courts from carrying out sentences handed down by foreign courts following a lawsuit which is intended to censure, intimidate and stop critics in Malta by forcing them to pay huge legal expenses.
The PN said that Maltese journalists require the highest protection and legislators have the duty to ensure that we have the best laws in this respect.
