Over 450 workers from various government departments and entities started an embellishment campaign around Malta to give the country a new look. Works involved a general cleansing of roads and bays, maintenance of lighting, painting, new traffic signs and gathering of heavy waste in various areas.
In a statement, the Office of Principal Permanent Secretary Mario Cutajar said that the departments of Public Cleansing and Maintenance, Public Works and Enemmalta were today involved in the campaign. The ‘Insebbħu Malta’ campaign was announced by Prime Minister Robert Abela and continues during the month of May.
Workers were grouped in 15 teams and worked around the whole of Malta. Among others, during the first day works were carried out on changing lighting in roads in Mġarr, Mosta and Telgħa t’Alla and Ommu in Naxxar; and also roads cleaning from Triq il-Barrani till Birżebbuġa. A large group of workers were posted in Valletta using specified equipment to remove writings and grafitti on buildings and street furniture.
The first days of the campaign will concentrate on arterial roads and places where a great number of persons gather.
The second phase will concentrate on needed painting, bays cleaning, traffic signs and public places. The third phase will be dedicated to towns and villages, and also residential areas.
