Park inaugurated in Ħaż-Żabbar

An abandoned and derelict area known as the Żabbar ditch, which was often the butt of abuse, has now been transformed into a family amusement park and was inaugurated after an investment of more than half a million Euro.

Until a few months ago, a grove in the Żabbar ditch had become a landfill for illegally dumped waste and an enclave for drug abuse. The area, which is the size of four football fields, has been turned into a family park.

Parks Malta’s Assistant Director Josianne Muscat said that the place was equipped with a security camera system to ensure that the area remains protected.

“We have carried out work on a building that has sanitary services and a kiosk and we are at the stage where we will soon issue a call for commercialization and we have installed games for children and a Greek theatre.”

During the inauguration of the project, the Minister for Tourism Julia Farrugia Portelli, said that this project cost about six hundred thousand euros. She added that in total about 2200 native trees and plants were planted, with their own irrigation system. This park was built in collaboration with APS bank which forked out € 35,000 toward the project.
