Parliament expected to approve relocation of tanks from Fort Ricasoli

Tomorrow Parliament is expected to approve the relocation of the ship tank cleaning facility from inside Fort Ricasoli.

This follows talks between the Government and the operator which in January 2013 was awarded the title of the facility for a period of 30 years.

In comments to Television Malta the Chairman of the Cottonera Foundation Glenn Bedingfield said the relocation of the tanks was one of the main measures in the Cottonera regeneration plan.

“As the infrastructure is old and no investment made it had started to emit odours. Now once there is an investment it has started to function properly. But we feel that is no place for it. That is the only beach we have in Cottonera and the south of Malta and therefore we believe that those tanks are out of place “.

The Wirt il-Kalkara Association welcomed this news and on its Facebook page said that it had played a part in the realisation of this plan.

It argued that Rinella Bay should be given the necessary attention as one of the few beaches heavily frequented by surrounding people.

The Associations added that Fort Rikażli should continue to be conserved and restored in order to restore the dignity it deserves.
