A truck driver who was hauling a trailer loaded with merchandise managed to get out of the truck’s cabin safe and sound after the truck overturned in the street known as It-telgħa tal-Kavallerija, in the limits of Marsa. The accident occurred at about 1.30 p.m.
The trailer came to rest on a wall at the side of the Marsa-Ħamrun Bypass. The hill had to be closed to traffic as the diesel fuel tank got ruptured and all the fuel contents leaked out into the street.
Civil Protection personnel and Police officers spread sand over the leaked diesel to prevent slippage and to allow the area to be opened to traffic again. The truck sustained considerable damage, and the fruit which was being transported ended up on the side of the road.
The driver, a 43-year-old man from Gżira, was taken to hospital for observation.
