Paul Harty is first traffic victim for the new year

The man who lost his life in a traffic accident in Qrendi on Saturday has been identified.

He is Paul Harty, a 56-year-old Irishman who lived in Imqabba, and who became the first victim of a traffic accident for the new year.

According to information available to TVM, a short time before the accident Harty was seen jogging along the Wied iz-Zurrieq belveder.

It appears that the Irishman probably lost his life after he became ill and lost control of the car, ending up with the vehicle crashing into a wall.

A TVM crew on site observed that although the damage to the car was not extensive, both front airbags inside the vehicle had opened.

A Magisterial Inquiry is being conducted into the accident.
