Spazju Kreattiv with 440 activities augmenting Valletta 2018 programme

Spazju Kreattiv, the national centre for creativity at St James’ Cavalier in Valletta, has announced the programme of activities for the new season between now and July of next year. The programme includes over 440 activities, and a number of initiatives forming part of the programme for the Valletta 2018 – European Culture Capital.

Electronic music will be presented by Electronic Music Malta. In recent months this group has started collaborating with Spaju Kreattiv at St James’ Cavalier and is presenting a number of activities at this venue, as it will be doing throughout the new season starting from this month until July of 2018. During the launch of the new season, Spazju Kreattiv artistic director Toni Sant announced that the programme prepared for the coming months is based on three factors: identity, diversity and heredity, which are central to the centre’s strategic vision.

Asked about attendance trends, Dr Sant told that new faces were being noticed, both among the public and also among artists who are collaborating with Spazju Kreattiv.

“And that has been exactly part of our aim, to diversify our audiences. At the same time this idea of diversification ties in with the artists. Meaning that these in the creative sector are a different breed, who perhaps in earlier days had not considered our organisation as one with whom they could collaborate; or perhaps they weren’t even set up!” Dr Sant added.

The programme for the next Spazju Kreattiv season includes 14 theatrical productions, the majority of which are new works, as well as concerts and artistic exhibitions including one by the Chinese Cultural Centre and another collective exhibition by Maltese and Polish artists. The cinema schedule includes a festival of Estonian films and the Valletta International Film Festival.

With the season’s programm coinciding with the period during which Valletta will don the mantle of European Culture Capital, Toni Sant said there were working hand in hand with the Valletta 2018 Foundation so that initiatives being held during this period will be included in the Spazju Kreattiv pogramme for the following year.
