PE delegation arrives tomorrow to discuss the country’s current situation
Between tomorrow and the 3rd and 4th December, a European Parliamentary delegation will be arriving in Malta to discuss our country’s political situation.
The delegation is made up of Roberta METSOLA (EPP, MT), Birgit SIPPEL (S&D, DE), Sophie IN ‘T VELD (NL), Sven GIEGOLD (Greens/EFA, DE), Nicolaus FEST (ID, DE), Assita KANKO (ECR, BE) u Stelios KOULOGLOU (GUE/NGL, EL) will be meeting with Civil Society, the Maltese government, the Authorities, journalists and Daphne Caruana Galizia’s family.
The group will be meeting with the Maltese President George Vella, the Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, Minister for Justice Owen Bonnici, Attorney General Dr Peter Grech, Speaker Anġlu Farrugia, Commissioner of Police Lawrence Cutajar and with the Chamber of Advocates..
This groups is going to be in Malta as per the Rule of Law Monitoring Group which was set up by the Committee of Civil Liberties in 2018 after the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and Slovak journalist Jan Kuciak and his girlfriend. .
The delegation is being sent after serious rule of law shortcoming were noted by the Europol investigation and other EU agencies..
