In the city of Sinaloa, Mexico, people were overjoyed at the news from the US that the biggest drug lord who trafficked drugs between Mexico and the US, Joaquin El Chapo Guzman, was handed a life sentence and a further 30 years on top of that. Guzman, 62, was found guilty on ten charges including drug trafficking and money-laundering at the Federal Court in New York last February He had escaped from a Mexican prison in 2015 but was caught shortly afterwards. He was extradited to the US in 2017.
Mexicans who live in the city where El Chapo is from, welcomed the news, saying that they are happy that the man who caused so much damage to their community has finally got what he deserved. They also said that El Chapo had given them a bad reputation and they are disappointed that it had to be the US to see justice was served when Mexico should have done this. In Sinaloa, they were so happy with the news that they are selling El Chapo dolls to ridicule him.
