Persons aged over 16 can apply for Covid vaccine from the end of this month

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne announced that, from the end of this month, the Government will receive the anti-Covid registration of persons aged over 16, when this was planned for the middle of August.

The Deputy PM was speaking during the conclusion of the debate on the motion permitting the Government to get more loans from foreign governments and from local and foreign institutions.

He said that the Government has ordered enough anti-Covid vaccine booster consignments to reach all the people during next Autumn, adding that the country is also increasing the refregeration means for the vaccine.

Dr Fearne stated that 60 per cent of the population has till today received at least the first vaccination against Covid. 56 per cent of persons between 30 and 39 were vaccinated or registered for the vaccine.

Minister Fearne added that the Government’s economic performance is aimed at keeping unemployment at a low rate, while pandemic remains a priority in the health sector.

He stated that the Government is waiting the authorisation for the European Medicines Authority in order to vaccinate also persons between 12 and 15 years old. At the same time, the Maltese authorities are guarding against the virus variants with genome testing.

The motion was approved without a vote.
