One dead four missing after explosion in German chemical plant

At least one person died and four others are missing following an explosion in a chemical plant in Germany. In addition, 16 other persons were injured, two of them seriously, in an explosion that took place at Leverkusen at about 9.40 am local time.

The explosion took place at Chempark, a refuse incineration plant and caused widespread fires that took hours to be brought under control.

Police in the zone have appealed for people to remain in their homes and ensure they close all windows and apertures.
