A driver seems to have suffered grievous injuries after he was bounced out of his vehicle in an incident at about 7.30 pm in the Kirkop tunnels.
It appears that the driver, who also had a passenger, lost control of his vehicle after entering the tunnel in the direction of the international airport. On losing control he collided with the pavement and skidded to the other side of the road and then crashed into the wall and this caused him to be bounced out of the vehicle and he ended up under his own vehicle.
Civil Protection personnel were called to hoist the vehicle and extract the trapped driver while an ambulance arrived to convey the driver and passenger, both injured, to hospital.
Part of the tunnel had to be closed for some time. Police investigations are ongoing.
