American Mayor Pete Buttigieg, of Maltese descent, launched his presidential campaign in the race for a Democratic candidate for next year’s election.
Buttigieg, 37, studied at Harvard University and served with the US military in Afghanistan. He has launched his campaign in the city of South Bend in the State of Indiana, where he has been mayor for the past seven years.
The American media is giving him a lot of publicity despite having difficulty pronouncing his surname. This is because of his many qualities amongst these speaking seven languages and being the first gay candidate for the American presidency.
“Right now our country needs a fresh start. I’m Pete Buttigieg, I’m the Mayor of South Bend Indiana.” With this declaration, Pete Buttigieg began the long road to the White House for the United States Presidential election in 2020.
His father, Professor Joseph Buttigieg, was born in Hamrun in 1947 and is graduate of the University of Malta. He emigrated to the United States in the late seventies and later married Scottish Jennifer Montgomery.
Buttigieg was born in the United States. He is a Harvard University graduate and speaks seven languages, including Maltese. In 2012 he was elected mayor of the city of South Bend in the state of Indiana.
With his husband Chasten, Pete Buttigieg is basing his campaign on the need for generational change in the United States.
He believes that his age is not an obstacle to his ambition but sees this an opportunity for the American people.
His campaign is based on liberal ideals, which in his own words should define and shape the future of the United States.
In the first three months of this year, support for his campaign has translated into over 7 million dollars worth of grants. He is running with 18 candidates for the democratic nomination, with the selection being made in a series of primary elections.
