Plan launched to breathe new life into Cottonera

MP Glen Bedingfield, who heads a committee for the rehabilitation of Cottonera, has launched a strategic plan for Cottonera which has been approved by Cabinet.

The committee has received over 200 submissions for this strategy. Mr Bedingfield announced that within a few weeks the Foundation for Cottonera will be set up with the aim of implementing this strategy. The speaker added that certain works include the restoration of the Cottonera bastions and fortifications. The plan also includes the creation of open spaces, more access by sea to Valletta, and also more cultural activities as well as a new promenade for Kalkara.

Minister Owen Bonnici described this initiative as a plan which will breathe new life into Cottonera, through a vision which will continue to strengthen the historic and cultural presence of the three cities. Dr Bonnici thanked the Church, which will also help with this plan by providing assistance to vulnerable families.
