PM announces Government working on health strategy with Queen Mary University

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this morning visited ongoing works at Barts Medical School in Gozo. Work was also started early this year on the building of the new hospital.

The Prime Minister also announced today that Government will continue to work closely with Queen Mary University of London, among others on courses leading to a Masters Degree, and also to collaborate with the Health Ministry on health strategies.

Dr Muscat expressed the opinion that through Barts Medical School and the investment by Steward in the hospital, Gozo will become an international centre for medical teaching and medical tourism. The Prime Minister added that in this way, the economy in Gozo will continue to grow in a sustainable manner through growth linked with education and health.

The Barts Medical School Centre for Anatomy, sited in a building adjoining the Gozo General Hospital, was inaugurated in December.

The centre was built with an investment of 1.8 million euro by Steward Healthcare, and includes specialised equipment which will help medical students undergoing Barts courses in their anatomical studies.
