PM commemorates Sir Ugo Mifsud on 129th anniversary of his birth

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat commemorated Sir Ugo Mifsud on the 129th anniversary of his birth.

In 1924 Sir Ugo Mifsud, at the age of 38, was appointed as the third Prime Minister of Malta and in 1926, together with Dr Enrico Mizzi, he led the Partito Nazionalista.

During his political career, Sir Ugo served in various important roles and in 1939 he was elected member of the Council of Government.

On the 9th February 1942, Sir Ugo Mifsud suffered a heart attack during a heated speech against the British Government’s decision for the deportation of a number of Maltese in Uganda.

He died two days later at the age of 52 in Villa Preziosi, Lija and was buried at the Lija cemetery.
