PM in virtual meeting with European leaders on Covid-19

Prime Minister Robert Abela this evening held an informal virtual meeting with European leaders in which Covid-19 and the need for collaboration and coordination between the Member States of the European Union were discussed.

Today’s meeting was held to continue discussions on topics that the European Council agreed on two weeks ago, including quarantine, contact tracing, testing strategies, joint evaluation of testing methods, and a temporary restriction on unnecessary travel within the European Union.

During this meeting discussions were held on rapid testing and how these should begin to be recognized by all Member States, the vaccine and the need to address the logistical challenges for its distribution.

Also discussed was the assistance that was to be provided to those member countries whose health system was not keeping up with emerging cases.
