PM requests more information about collapse of Guardamangia apartments, says families will be given assistance

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has expressed concern about the incident involving residents in the Guardmangia block of apartments which collapsed last night, and has requested a report about how the situation developed.

Replying to questions from the media, Dr Muscat declared that he would like to know whether reports had been made by residents and neighbours,  and also why no action had been taken if such reports had been made.

Stating that he has some indications, Dr Muscat said he does not feel, however, that he should comment at this stage, as investigations by the Police and by the Building Regulations Office are ongoing, whilst a Magisterial inquiry is underway.

Dr Muscat further stated he is informed the Housing Authority will offer assistance to the families involved, to ensure they will not suffer as a result of this emergency situation.
