PM says that even he was a victim of fake emails sent in his name to journalists

PM Robert Abela will be asking the National Committee for Cybersecurity to issue proposals on how the fight against online abuse can be strengthened.

This development came about after there were various attempts to impersonate other people or entities to generate fake online content.

An OPM statement confirmed that even the PM was the victim of a similar attempt on 15 August, when emails in his name were sent to journalists.

A report was immediately filed with MITA, the Malta Information and Technology Agency. It said that it was worrying how in the last few days there were attempts to publicly build a number of articles intended to specifically deceive the public.

PM Abela condemned these acts and said that they have no place in society.
