Opposition spokesman Beppe Fenech Adami has referred to the € 4.5 million contract signed by the Tourism Authority with VistaJet in 2016, as scandalous. At a news conference, Dr Fenech Adami said that the contract was riddled with errors in an attempt to justify the payment of these monies.
He alleged that VistaJet did not honor its obligations because among other things, it did not promote Malta as a tourist destination. Dr Fenech Adami said the Government had no problem squandering this money and was now struggling with the tourism industry while going through hard times due to the pandemic.
The Spokesperson for Governance, Karol Aquilina, said that that this was a clear case of abuse of public funds. He called on the Government to shoulder responsibility for this contract.
Deputy Leader of the Nationalist Party and Spokesperson for Tourism, Robert Arrigo, said that tourism in Malta was dead despite the fact that tourism affected half the country’s population. Asked by Television Malta if he agreed with the airport opening in June, Mr Arrigo replied that the Government should plan in advance so that tour operators could start moving towards the new normal.
