Police arrest 36 football supporters in Lille, France

At least 36 people were arrested in Lille, France in a day of confrontations between the French police and football supporters during the Euro 2016 championships.

The French police said that the arrests took place on Wednesday and added that another 16 people have ended up in the hospital.

On Wednesday evening, the anti-riot police had to use tear gas on hundreds of England football fans when they lit flares and charged at them.

Earlier a few England and Russia fans were arrested after fighting broke out.

Fans from England and Wales are in the city prior to their teams meeting each other in today’s match which starts at 3 p.m.
