Police arrest Birkirkara goalkeeper

The Police yesterday evening arrested the Birkirkara goalkeeper in connection with an alleged case of corruption in Maltese football.

Sources close to the team of Birkirkara FC confirmed with tvm.com.mt that Miroslav Kopric, a 32-year-old originally from Croatia, was interrogated at the Police HQ in Floriana. It is still not known whether Kopric will be arraigned in Court in the next few hours.

The news broke yesterday afternoon on a local website which revealed that the Police were investigating allegations of match fixing after a member of the Birkirkara committee itself exposed what was happening.

The Police confiscated two mobiles and laptop belonging to the B’Kara goalkeeper in connection with this case, as part of the investigations.

Cupric debuted with the team last January and his contract was renewed in June.

Meanwhile in a statement, the B’Kara FC committee expressed its complete faith in the coach, Nikola Jaros, with the club declaring that it would give him their full support in any legal action he feels he needs to take in order to protect his name.
