Police Sergeant grievously injured during anti-drug trafficking operation

A Police Sergeant was grievously injured on Christmas Eve when he was trying to arrest a Somali national who was in possession of cannabis resin ready to be sold.

The Sergeant was grievously injured when the Somali was being arrested, after resisting the Police in the performance of their duties. The Somali is expected to be arraigned in Court in the coming days and charged with aggravated possession of cannabis resin and with seriously injuring a Police Sergeant, among other charges.

Meanwhile, the Police said in a statement that during the night they had arrested seven Maltese nationals, variously aged between 18 and 36 years, in a number of establishments in St Julians, after these persons had been found in possession of a substance suspected as being cocaine.

Police investigations are ongoing.
