President appeals for conservation of natural and historical heritage

Malta’s President has appealed for the conservation of the natural and historical heritage, while warning about the consequences if we neglect this heritage. He said that our children have the right to enjoy Malta which continues to be renewed without losing its soul on the road.

President George Vella was addressing a cultural evening at Mdina during which the Northern Region, one of five regions that embrace 12 local councils, introduced the book ‘Colours of the North’ to the public.

He said that such initiatives are usefull for the whole country and continue to anlarge the national cultural heritage. He expressed his satisfaction of seeing the councils, despite the political differences and various priorities in their localities, joining together and working hard with the books’ author in this high level publication.

Dr Vella remarked that when he sees such unity and cooperation, he understands where the people may reach with good will and agreement between us. He recalled that Malta was always open to a great number of cultures, religions and different views. He thanked all those who participated in the book, including author Natalino Fenech.

The local councils forming part of the Northern Region are Mdina, Mellieħa, St Paul’s Bay, Mġarr, Rabat, Mtarfa, Ħad-Dingli, Mosta, Naxxar, Ħal Għargħur, Swieqi and Pembroke.
