President appeals for revision of planning and building regulations

President George Vella appealed to authorities to review the existing planning and building regulations in order to avoid more unpleasant structures.

He made the appeal in a statement after he recently expressed his regret for the approval of a development permit for a five-storey block in Triq San Girgor in Żejtun, in which Dr Vella was raised and lived.

The President denied that he is criticising the permit now because the development will be carried out near his home, and mentioned various occasions during the years in which he spoke in favour of the environment and sustainable development.

He appeal to the responsible authorities to make a critical judgement on the results of the planning and permits policy, adding that even if they look good and academically justified, their final result is uglier in people’s eyes.
