President to head delegation to visit Holy See and Italy

The President Dr George and Ms Vella will leave Malta today on a four day visit to the Holy See and Italy.

During this visit, President Vella and his delegation will be met by Pope Francis during a private audience on Monday.

At The Vatican, Dr Vella and the delegation, including the Minister for Education and Employment, Evarist Bartolo, will be meeting The Vatican’s State Secretary, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

On Tuesday, President George Vella will be meeting Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace in Rome to discuss various current themes.

Other official functions expected to be attended by Dr and Ms Vella include Independence Day celebrations where the President will address distinguished guests.

During the visit and in the absence of the President abroad, Dolores Cristina will be Acting President.
