President visits patients at Mater Dei hospital

President George Vella, accompanied by Mrs Vella, today visited patients at Mater Dei hospital, together with deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister, Chris Fearne. Dr Vella said he made the visit to deliver a message to patients that they are not forgotten, and as President, he will support patients who need treatment abroad through the Malta Community Chest Fund. Referring to the Imġarr tragic accident, the President appealed to drivers to be more cautious while driving and for blood donation.

President Vella stated that he wants to give hope to each patient currently in sadness and pain, and thanked doctors and staff for their dedication at work. As a doctor, President Vella said he appreciates that doctors specialize abroad and return to provide their services to Maltese patients. They do this, he added, with sacrifice because if they stayed abroad they would benefit financially. The President visited a number of patients in wards and delivered  a message of encouragement to them and their relatives.

Minister Fearne thanked President Vella for his support to patients and staff, saying that as a ministry it will provide full support to any initiative taken by  the Presidency.
