Prime Minister testifies in case against Gaffarena

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has testified in the case he initiated to cancel the property expropriation in Triq Zekka, Valletta and so that Marco Gaffarena gives back to the Government the compensation he received for this expropriation. He denied that he was responsible for what happened and said he knew about the allegations through the media.

Dr Muscat said that although the Lands Department falls under his responsibility he delegates authority to the Parliamentary Secretaries who are responsible for the sector, while his role is to give a general direction. A number of questions made by Gaffarena’s lawyers were declared as irrelevant by presiding Judge Anna Felice, who insisted that the witness had to reply only to questions on facts while the legal issues should be left to the Court.
