Profs Cassola: constitutional amendments to gender equality are an insult to women

Independent general election candidate, Professor Arnold Cassola, has filed a judicial protest against the Government claiming that the constitutional amendments to gender equality that were approved by Parliament are an insult to women.

In the judicial protest filed in the First Hall of the Civil Court, Professor Cassola said that the constitutional amendments were a result of collusion between the two major parties.

He said the amendments to the law created a system of discrimination because they only entitle the two major parties to increase female MPs.

Professor Cassola explained that women from other independent parties who obtain more votes than those from the Labour Party and Nationalist Party will lose the right to enter Parliament as a result of the 12 women who will be added and will be overlooked because they are not members of the major parties.
