Protests in China against demolition of mosque

Hundreds of Muslims in Western China are protesting against the authorities  to stop them from demolishing a mosque.

According to the authorities the Weizhou Grand Mosque in Ningxia does not have the necessary permits.

The protest started after a notification issued last week that the mosque would be demolished because no permits had been issued for its construction.

The people, however, don’t want the mosque to be dismantled, and some have stated that they will not let the government touch it.

There are some 23 million Muslims in China, and for hundreds of years Islam was very prominent in Ningxia.
