Priest proposes tax on bridal gowns – the more scanty the higher the tax

A Roman Catholic priest in Venice in Italy, said that brides should be made to pay a fee according to the amount of their physical exposure in their bridal gown, the greater the exposure, the greater the payment.

Fr Cristiano Bobbo made this proposal in a joking manner in the parish magazine. He wrote that although he did not actually mean to introduce this measure, he stressed the point that some brides appear in church immodestly and vulgarly dressed.

Father Bobbo said this is increasingly happening because weddings are being more seen as an event than a mutual and consensual agreement and understanding and therefore the dress tends to reflect the mood of the occasion.

He further stressed that bridal dresses should be plainer and simpler as they used to be in the past.
