The State of Queensland in Australia has extended its frontier closure with New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory to prolong the control of the spread of Covid-19. The State of Victoria is closed down and regarded as being the epicentre of the second pandemic wave after a spike of cases in Melbourne. Today alone, Victoria reported 725 new cases, a record figure, even though the State has been under total lockdown for the last four weeks. Last Sunday, Victoria declared a State of Disaster and ordered Melbourne residents not to go out at night.
In New South Wales the situation is much better and only 12 new cases were reported. Its capital city Sydney registered about 80 new infections this week and although it has not resorted to lockdown measures, the wearing of face masks is obligatory. Despite all, Australia is in a far better position than that of many other countries around the globe with a total of 19,500 reported cases and 232 deaths.
