Man with a history of violence denies striking his girlfriend

A 27-year-old Siggiewi man with a history of violence and Court appearances once again appeared in Court yesterday afternoon charged with injuring his girlfriend and striking her with his fist during an argument.

He was further accused of committing an offence during a period of freedom from arrest in connection with an alleged attempted homicide act in 2011 and breaching various suspended sentences including assaulting a man with a piece of wood and the corruption of a minor.

Earlier this year he was given a two year prison sentence for trying to run down a person with his vehicle but the case is awaiting judgement by the Court of Appeal.

Appearing before Magistrate Gabrielle Vella this morning the man denied the accusations but the Court ordered he remain detained under arrest.
