Remanded in custody after being charged with threatening his sister

A 36-year-old Maltese national has been charged with threatening and frightening his sister in Ħal Għaxaq on Friday and in the preceding days.

The Police also charged the man with harassing his sister and causing psychological violence in her regard. Accused pleaded not guilty. Inspector Melvyn Camilleri stated in Court that accused has drug-related problems, and whenever he runs out of money he goes to his relatives for more funds to sustain his habit.

Defence argued that although accused is being charged with violence, there is not one single scratch or weal on the alleged victim. Defence asked for bail.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud ordered that accused be detained under arrest, and recommended to the Director of Prisons that accused be given immediate assistance to be able to overcome his drug habit. The Court also ordered a ban on publication of names.
