22-year old Gareth Chlach from Cospicua was remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty in Court of injuring his partner.
He was accused of causing grievous injuries to his partner last Friday in Cospicua and threatening violence on her. He was also accused with drug possession and being a recidivist.
In Court, Inspector Eman Hayman said the victim suffered from grievous injuries in her nose after being punched. He said the argument began on the use of the victim’s mobile. The woman had uploaded a video footage on Facebook alleging that she had just been assaulted in her home. The accused, who has a drug problem, was arrested on Monday after he voluntarily went to the Cospicua station.
The Court denied the accused released from custody and recommended to the prison director that the man is held at the forensic section or the section for vulnerable persons due to his drug addction. When the Court ordered his custody the accused said that prison is not a good place for him and “he will hang himself there”.
